2011 Awards - celebrating 20 years of unbuilt architecture in NZ
Celebrating 20 years as a sponsor of the same event with the
Auckland Architecture Association, Cavalier Bremworth, has invested
further by introducing a new category and boosting prize money by
$6000 to a total of $16,000. Online judging has also been
introduced for the first time in the Open categories.
This year the Open category has been split into two - a general
Open - conceptual section for New Zealand
professional architects to enter, and an Open -
work-in-progress section to encourage more entries from
professional architects who have projects about to be
realised.
The new Open - work in progress section has the
same $5000 prize money as the existing Open section, along
with a Chris Metcalfe trophy, and an additional $1000 for the
runner-up. The student section offers a $3000 first prize and
trophy with $1000 for the runner-up.
Another key change has been the introduction of
pre-judging for the professional section - entries for this closed
on Tuesday 25 October. Finalists will be asked to provide boards
and models for final judging at the St Paul St Gallery in Auckland
on Tuesday 15 November.
Students still need to register their interest
online by 7 November and deliver their work for judging to
St Paul St Gallery on the morning of Tuesday 15 November.
To further emphasise the purpose of the event, the name has
changed from the AAA Cavalier Bremworth Design Awards' to the AAA
Cavalier Bremworth Unbuilt Architecture Awards. The awards
ceremony will be held at St Paul St Gallery on the evening of
Thursday 17 November.
This event will be preceded by a lecture from guest
international judge Kerry Hill of Kerry Hill Architects in
Singapore. Read more about the
judges.
